KIPP Austin College Prep is a dynamic community of hard working teachers, students, and parents committed to helping minority students get to college. As we move into our sixth year as an educational institution in Austin, we are seeking teachers who can deliver high quality instruction to our students. At KIPP, everyone—parents, teachers, students and support staff—is working toward the same goal of getting all of our students into four-year colleges and universities. There is substantial professional and emotional support from co-workers, Grade Level Chairs, administrators, and the KIPP network. Overall, our teachers are very dedicated, work incredibly hard and for longer hours than at public schools, but they quickly see students progress, making the pay off incredibly tremendous.

The Science Teaching Fellow will work intensively with administrators and science department teachers to hone teaching skills while helping our middle school students achieve the academic skills, intellectual habits, and character traits needed to succeed in competitive high schools and universities. The Science Teaching Fellow's time is divided between assisting advisors, lesson planning, whole class instruction, small group tutoring, and grading. The work of a fellow provides excellent training, preparation, and practice for science teaching positions that will be open in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Implement classroom management techniques that are consistent with the culture of the school.

Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful and willing to do whatever it takes to help our students reach a level of academic excellence.

Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, be flexible, willing and able to play different roles at the school, and to go above and beyond to meet the varied and constant needs of our kids.

Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with other teachers to create and implement interdisciplinary lessons and develop effective pedagogical strategies.
